Let Sound Bites Help With Your
Local Fundraising Efforts
While COVID-19 continues to impact every aspect of our lives, we truly believe that “normal” is just around the corner. This normal will bring our kids back together to participate in the activities they love and cherish. It will allow sports teams to begin to schedule games and tournaments, scouting programs will return to meetings and outings, dance and drill teams will compete again, and other organizations, which are so vital to our communities’ youth, will come together once again.
These programs are critically important to the social and community development of our future generations but, throughout 2021, many of the fundraising activities which supported these organization were postponed or canceled due to social distancing guidelines.
As we all know, it wasn’t just these organizations who were impacted. Every business had to make changes to adjust to the 2021 “normal”, which leads us to Sound Bites Delivers.
To better understand what Sound Bites Delivers is, we need to take a trip back to 1989 for a moment. This is when Cedar Grove Composting was started as a way for our region to extend the life of our landfills and reduce greenhouse gases escaping into our environment. This is done by removing compostable materials such as yard and food waste from our waste stream, and processing it through more natural methods. The finished compost is then returned to our environment as a beneficial resource in construction, landscaping, stormwater applications, and agriculture.
Because much of the feedstock is food waste diverted from local restaurants, Cedar Grove worked in partnership with these restaurants to start Sound Sustainable Farms in 2017. Located in the Sammamish Valley in Redmond, WA, this 70-acre mixed produce farm was started with our environment at its core. Compost is used as the primary nutrient input, eliminating the need for traditional fertilizers, which negatively impact our environment. The produce grown is then returned to the very restaurants which started this cycle through the diversion of the food waste from their businesses.
It’s full circle recycling, all being done locally! FARM > TABLE > COMPOST > FARM
Back to Sound Bites Delivers and COVID-19…
Sound Sustainable Farms places seed orders in December and January for the next seasons harvests. Propagation and seeding start in February and March, which was taking place as COVID was just coming about. We assumed, as many of us did, that the impacts of COVID would be short term and things would be back to normal by our first harvest for the restaurants in June. Unfortunately, as we watched the restaurants shutting down, we realized that we would need to get creative to move acres and acres of produce that was planted. At the same time, the restaurants who helped us start Sound Sustainable Farms, were looking for ways to keep their employees working and revenue flowing to weather this storm.
Because of the integral relationship between the farm and restaurants, we decided to support each other by starting a delivery service, bringing local staples direct to consumers throughout the region. We know there many food delivery options, but Sound Bites is THE FIRST to deliver pre-prepared frozen staples from restaurants like Duke’s Seafood, Wild Ginger, El Gaucho, Ivars, The Metropolitan Grill, Tutta Bella and more… We deliver, you be the chef!
